Body Helix X-4 Gold Kevlar paddle review

Company Info: We’re back with another Body Helix review! To see our prior reviews, take a look here.

Item Name: Today we’re taking a look at the newest from Body Helix, in that of the X-4 Gold Kevlar Pickleball Paddle!

Item Description: The X-4 Gold Kevlar features a Full Kevlar Face (which is different than the X-3 which was a Kevlar blend).  The paddle features a 5.25” handle and is a 16 MM thickness. The paddle features 11 layers of construction, with 4 layers of t700 Raw Toray Carbon and 2 layers of Kevlar! Like their prior offerings, it is a unibody construction and 360 foam injected. The paddle core is a premium honeycomb polymer.

The X-4 Gold Kevlar features a striking design. The handle and edge guard are black with “body helix” written in gold. The grip itself features holes for aeration and is slightly tacky to touch. The handle cap is black with the gold body helix “X” logo. The rubber grip guard features the same.

The paddle face is almost entirely gold in color, with the woven Kevlar present. There is a considerable amount of texture present when running your hand across it. Down the right side and to the bottom of the paddle face is a black bold color.

Within this color, the “body helix” logo is in gold, vertically down the right side. The X4 logo is present at the base of the paddle face in gold with the USA pickleball approval in a light grey. The 16 mm indication is also in gold at the bottom right of the paddle face.

Price: The paddle is available on their website (bodyhelix.com) for $140.

Play style: The paddle feels lightweight but sturdy when handling. While the grip does not have any texture or ridges, the tackiness level is strong and it is comfortable when playing for an extended period of time.

The paddle texture is highly evident and it is extremely easy to put spin on the ball.

Like their prior paddles, the sweet spot is very large and the paddle is easy to use. Soft / control shots are easy to master and the paddle allows for consistent play.

I thought the paddle was strong in power shots, but didn’t find it to be uncontrollable. I think this is more of a control / all around paddle vs. strictly a power paddle.

Recommendation: As always, I’m very impressed with the Body Helix offerings. The X-4 Gold Kevlar is a fantastic paddle and especially at the price point. I think this paddle is great for advanced/intermediate players, and plays at an extremely high level. However, the price point is considerably less than others in the market place with similar qualities (16MM, Kevlar, etc.).

Another big selling point on this paddle is that it came with a leather paddle cover. This is hands down the nicest paddle cover we’ve seen and I’m super impressed with it. This elevated the buying experience and has been a conversation piece at the courts.

I would definitely recommend this if you’re looking to upgrade your paddle, try a Kevlar, or are in need of an additional high quality paddle that you can compete with. It’s a great value for the money.
